Prof. Topside E. Mathonsi is an Associate Professor and Head of the Department of Information Technology at the Tshwane University of Technology (TUT). He holds a Doctor of Computing and has extensive research and teaching experience in cybersecurity, computer networks, wireless communication systems, and emerging technologies such as the Internet of Things (IoT), 5G, and smart agriculture.
Prof. Mathonsi has supervised and co-supervised 21 master’s students and one doctoral student to completion. He has published 30 peer-reviewed journal articles, 70 conference papers, and 6 edited book chapters in his areas of expertise.
He actively promotes academia–industry collaboration through partnerships with organizations such as Huawei, Cisco, CompTIA, EC-Council, Fortinet, SENTECH, and the CSIR, and is deeply committed to developing future-ready ICT professionals while advancing Africa’s cybersecurity and digital innovation landscape.
