Prof Kerry-Lynn Thomson

Director of Centre for Research in Information and Cyber Security (CRICS)

Kerry-Lynn is a Professor in the School of Information Technology (IT), the Head of Department for the Network Engineering Department, and Director of the Centre for Research in Information and Cyber Security (CRICS). Kerry-Lynn is a South African National Research Foundation (NRF) C2 Rated Researcher.

Kerry-Lynn is the current Chair of the international IFIP Technical Committee 11 Working Group 12 (11.12) and is the current South African national Chair of the IITPSA Special Interest Group for Cybersecurity (SIGCyber). She is also a Committee Member of the Eastern Cape Chapter and a Professional Member of the IITPSA.

With over 20 journal articles published and 25 national and international conference papers presented, Kerry-Lynn’s research focus is interdisciplinary and includes
cybersecurity and cybersafety culture, and the human aspects of information assurance.

In her capacity as a cybersecurity researcher, Professor Thomson has been invited as a guest speaker on cybersecurity awareness topics at various schools, career evenings, and leadership academies, and as a cybersecurity commentator on national news segments.
